Fun fact about Rachel:

To celebrate my golden birthday, I went skydiving and do not regret it one minute. Incredible, life-changing experience!

Swimming background: After being a collegiate runner for cross country and track & field, I found myself desiring to expand my fitness activities outside of the typical running mileage, strength training and cycling for cross training. Then, one day, I decided to get a taste of the water (or rather swimming) as another form of cross-training, finding out that I really enjoyed it. Sooner or later, it became my more consistent form of exercise. As I began to notice the amazing full body workout it truly provides, I was hooked! During my internship in college, I lived abroad in East Asia teaching English where I also taught a few students how to swim. As I taught them in another country, I found out how much fun it was and thought it would be fun to pursue this more in the future. Fast forward and it is so much fun. In the upcoming years, my personal fitness goal is to train and complete a sprint triathlon!

What I like about being a swim instructor: Enjoying the time with students of all ages, I love working with them one one one to improve little techniques that lead to huge results. When first starting with a student, I like learning about what they individually desire to improve upon. Then, we take that difficulty (i.e. breathing, strokes, or general water safety) and break that down week to week, building while also fine tuning from the previous week(s) lessons. All at once, when we accomplish the goal, I love sharing with them, "Hey (swimmer's name), do you realize that you made it this far and improved upon your skill? You did that ALL by yourself!" As soon as I say that, it is that look of humble excitement from them that gets me every time. When they realize that they accomplished the task themselves, it is a joy to notice their progression. I look forward to sharing in more moments of hard work and dedication, resulting in future swimmer's success to achieve their personal and athletic dreams!
