Childcare Behavior Policy

At Four Seasons, we prioritize a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all children in our care. Our childcare team uses positive behavior management strategies to encourage cooperation and appropriate behavior.

Staff aim to model the courtesy and respect expected from children, and work to create a caring, cooperative, and safe environment for both children and staff. In return, children are expected to show respect for childcare staff and fellow children.

Behavior Management Strategies

Behavior in childcare is guided by the following principles:

  • Positive behavior is encouraged through praise and reinforcement.
  • Unacceptable behavior is addressed calmly and directly.
    • This includes behavior that causes physical or emotional harm, bullying, unsafe actions, or property damage.

Conflict Resolution Steps

Childcare staff will use consistent and constructive strategies to manage behavior:

  1. Redirection: The child is offered alternative, positive choices.
  2. Activity Change: The child is removed from the current activity and guided to a new one.
  3. Quiet Time: The child is seated next to a staff member for a short period of quiet time.
    • Duration is based on the child’s age (e.g., 3 minutes for a 3-year-old).
  4. Parent Notification: If behavior continues, the parent will be called to pick up the child.

Ongoing Behavioral Concerns

If a pattern of unacceptable behavior develops and there is no significant improvement, the child may be temporarily suspended from childcare, as determined by the Childcare Coordinator.
